On 26 September 2017 at the Cheshire Military Museum in Chester, we will be launching the BuildForce Northwest Alliance at an Armed Forces Insight Day hosted by BuildForce Alliance partner, mechanical and engineering company HE Simm.
This Insight Day will focus on construction opportunities, both current and forecast, in northwest England for service leavers. We will be introducing HE Simm and some northwest-based contractors, including Carmichael UK and Taylor Woodrow/Vinci (also BuildForce Alliance partners), plus Kier and Sir Robert McAlpine, who are all delivering projects across the region and have potential permanent job vacancies and work placement opportunities for service leavers. For more details click here.
From service leaver to construction leader
The day will be hosted by Anthony Melia, once a private in the Cheshire Regiment and now the director of health, environment, safety and quality at HE Simm. In our latest BuildForce case study, he says:
“Construction is a fabulous career path to choose. It can be very diverse, with hundreds of different roles and potential avenues to follow.
… I could be meeting with a director from a large tier 1 contractor one day, be on site the next, looking at finance another day, meeting with potential new clients, recruiting, training, mentoring, board meetings. The list goes on….
The region’s major employers have numerous vacancies for both permanent jobs and work placements. There are opportunities for project managers, designers, mechanical and electrical engineers, quantity surveyors, estimators, tradesmen and supporting roles. A job in construction isn’t just about being ‘on the tools’ – it is accessible to all ranks and skill sets, and – as Melia’s example shows – offers real potential for career progression.
The Insight Day will also include shops to provide industry advice on CVs, interview preparation and using social media effectively (LinkedIn profiles, for example). This event is aimed at Service Leavers – to reserve a place, please email info@buildforce. Additional employers would be most welcome too – again, email us if you are interested.
